Teaching at Sangha Studio
We're so excited that you want to learn more about teaching at Sangha Studio! To be sure that our teachers understand our mission and overall culture of Sangha Studio, we follow the below process for anyone to teach at the studio or be a representative of the studio. Largely, this process allows us to get to know you and allows you to share your interest with us! Our sangha is built on community and connection. Take the time to get involved, let us know that you are interested, and stay connected.
Keep in mind that we will add any yoga teachers who email us to our Community Yoga Teachers e-list which we use occasionally for events, trainings and studio happenings. Should you want to simply be on that list, just send us an email with your name, email, and teaching style. No other information needed!

Teaching at Sangha Studio means being involved in either of the following ways:
- You're on the studio sub list for drop-in classes
- You teach in our community yoga programs in the studio and in the community
Before you send us an email expressing your interest in teaching at the studio, here are some important things to consider:
- You must be attending classes at Sangha for at least four months prior to submitting a request for a demo. If you are a seasoned teacher or have completed a 200hr YTT with Sangha Studio, we sometimes make exceptions to this timeline. If this is you, you're welcome to send us an email to start a conversation!
- You must have the long term goal of either being on the studio drop-in schedule or involved in our Community Yoga Programs.
- In a nutshell, this means that you will sub classes as needed until the point where we ask to add you to our drop-in schedule. You're then able to commit to teaching a minimum of 2 classes per week for 8-12 months and being an integral part of our community.
- You deeply connect to our nonprofit mission.
- You believe in Inclusivity, Connection and Access at your core.
- You have an authentic personality. We encourage our teachers to bring their individual style into their classes! We love seeing how each teacher’s personality makes Sangha the special place that it is.
- You have experience teaching
- You have a strong interest in your continued education and evolution as a teacher.
Alright, let's get this started
If the above bullet points sound exactly like you, let's get this started!
Step 1 — Participation: As stated above, you must be actively attending classes. Yes, we will check your MindBody online account :) This is to make sure that you align with our mission and core values.
Step 2 — Fill out the questions in the form linked below.
Step 3 — Demo or Video Class: After we have read your answers to the questions in the form and determined if your teaching style fits our current need, we'll want to see you teach! Since we have such a teeny tiny admin staff, we schedule auditions selectively. We may ask that you send a video of your teaching style or we may schedule a 20-minute demo class. This is your chance to show off your stuff! After that, we may open a conversation about teaching at Sangha Studio and invite you to join our sub list!
In-person or Zoom Demo: This is a 20-minute meet and greet for you to show us how you teach. You can choose to show a snippet of what the middle of your classes are like, or you can teach an abbreviated class with a beginning, middle and end. Things we will look for: intelligent sequencing, theme style, inclusive language, assisting vs. not assisting, music vs. no music, how you see students and the way that you hold space, etc. All of this information helps us to determine for whom of our teachers you would be a good sub and if your teaching style fits our current needs.
Video Demo: This video can be you teaching a friend in your living room or recording part of a public class. Make sure we can clearly hear you speaking and that you are teaching in your preferred style (aka the style class you would like to teach at the studio). The video should be no more than 20 minutes in length. See above for more details on what the class should/can contain and what we are looking for.
Step 4 — After your demo, we'll add you to sub lists for specific class styles based on your teaching style and availability. You'll then receive emails when teachers need subs! While you're waiting for your first email to step into a class, we ask that you do your best to continue to grow into our community. We've found that the more subs are around the studio, in livestream classes, attending outdoor classes and trainings, the more you'll understand the studio culture and integrate yourself into our community.
Step 5 — It's time to sub! You've received an email from a teacher and agreed to cover a class! You'll be emailed a detailed document about how to prepare for the particular class you are subbing - in person or online.
Step 6 — Stay on top of our minds by subbing, coming to classes and staying involved! We review our sub list quarterly to see who has been getting opportunities, who would be good additions to the drop-in schedule if space allows, and who is no longer attending classes.
