Frequently Asked Questions

Sangha Studio is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, donation-based studio working to empower our community by widening access to the benefits of yoga, both in and out of the studio. At Sangha Studio, drop-in donations, Sustaining Memberships, Yoga Vouchers, and our Work-Exchange Program allow us to offer yoga classes and workshops to all, regardless of circumstance or ability to pay.

To join us in our commitment to building an empowered community through the shared practice of yoga, visit us at any of our three locations for a drop-in class, workshop, community event and more.
What does “sangha” mean and how do you say it?
Sangha translates from Sanskrit as “community.” Sangha Studio serves as a place where we can all feel supported and encouraged in community, in our yoga practice, and in our lives. Sangha is pronounced [SAHN-guh].
What are my options for Paying for class at Sangha Studio?
When taking a class, workshop, series, etc. at Sangha Studio, there are various ways to donate:
  • The suggested donation per drop-in class is $10-$15, but any donation you are able to make is appreciated. We accept cash, check, and all major credit/debit cards.
  • Our One-Week Class Pass is $30 for one-week unlimited classes and does not auto renew.
  • Become a Sustaining Member! The Sustaining Membership auto renews on the first of each month for $60. It must be paid with a credit or debit card. See more details on our Sustaining Membership Page.
  • Suggested donation pricing for workshops, series, etc. is listed on our Workshop & Events page under each event. Sustaining Members have access to lower suggested donation amounts at these events.
Do I need to pre-register for class?
It’s a great idea to sign up with the studio through MindBody and register for class in advance, especially if you're running late. However, you can also sign into class when you arrive! If you're running late, know that for the safety of students' belongings, we often lock the doors 5-10 minutes into class if we don't have a volunteer staffed to keep an eye on the lobby.

Please note that capacity for weekly, drop-in classes are determined on a first-come, first-served basis and pre-registering for a weekly drop-in class does not guarantee you a spot. It's uncommon that a class is so busy that we can't make room for everyone who shows up, but it does happen occasionally – particularly during the winter months. However, if you're attending a workshop or special event, pre-registering does guarantee your spot!

If you wish to sign up online, know that there are only a few options listed for donation amounts. Should you desire to donate something not listed, simply call us (802.448.4262) and we will sign you up for class, then you can donate whatever you want when you arrive!

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.
Do you have mats and props I can use?
Yes! We offer mats and props (blocks, blankets, bolsters, straps, eye pillows, chairs) at no additional charge.
Is there parking/wheelchair access?
All of our locations are wheelchair accessible, see below for suggestions on parking and details on accessible entrances.

Sangha Studio – Pine | 120 Pine Street: There is a public parking garage just 1.5 blocks away. Metered parking is available out front and along Main St . & College St. Our studio is wheelchair accessible from the back entrance. If you’re moving from the front entrance to the back entrance, you take a left / turn south onto Pine St. out of our parking lot, then take a left / turn east onto Main St. Just after the Yogarama building (east of the building), turn left into a parking lot. Our accessible entrance is at the back left of the parking lot (north/west).

Sangha Studio – North | 237 North Winooski Ave.: All parking in the Old North End of Burlington is free on-street parking. You can often find parking right outside the studio on North Winooski Ave, or along side streets. The studio is ground level and is wheelchair accessible. The parking lot behind the building is reserved for residents and not available to students, but has wheelchair accessible parking if needed.

What does becoming a “Sustaining Member” mean?
Becoming a Sustaining Member means unlimited monthly classes at all locations, mat storage if desired at either our North or Pine locations, and discounts on specialty classes, workshops and retail. Memberships are the bread and butter of our studio, allowing us to bring yoga into the community. For more about becoming a Sustaining Member, visit our Sustaining Membership page.
I’m going away for the month. Can I put my membership on hold? I’m moving! How do I cancel my membership?
Memberships can be put on hold or cancelled at any time filling out the form on our Change of Membership Status 2 days before the end of the month for which you’d like to cancel. We require all changes to a membership to be processed via the online form so details are not missed through email communication.
WHEN DOES THE MONEY COME OUT OF MY ACCOUNT FOR THE SUSTAINING MEMBERSHIP?
Memberships are processed on the 1st of each month. The payment will process within the first three days of the month (depending on banking days).
I PURCHASED ONLINE AND MY MEMBERSHIP DIDN’T GET PRORATED, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Unfortunately, due to the software programming, memberships cannot be pro-rated when purchased online and they begin on the 1st of the following month. For this reason, we recommend signing up for your membership in the studio if you’d like to start right away or contact us directly at info@sanghastudio.org and we can adjust your membership for you!
DO YOU OFFER memberships or programs for businesses?
Business Memberships are available to businesses all sizes. See more details on our Business Memberships page. Contact us for details or questions info@sanghastudio.org
I AM RECOVERING FROM AN INJURY. CAN I STILL COME TO CLASS?
We recommend that you check with your physician and/or physical therapist and follow their recommendations. We do offer many slower paced classes and have props, including chairs at the North and South locations, available to modify your practice. We encourage modification and/or omission of any movements that don’t feel right to your body for any reason. Let your teacher know if you are having trouble during a class or are looking for ways to continue practicing yoga while injured!

If you're looking for more help practicing with an injury, you may benefit from a private yoga session. To learn more about private yoga or get in contact to schedule a session, head over here!
WHERE DOES MY DONATION GO?
Your donation allows us to keep doing what we’re doing both in the studio and out in the community. Your donation supports our mission of making yoga accessible to all regardless of funds, as well as helping to support our many community yoga programs, studio overhead, payroll, etc. Our community yoga programs are continually evolving and currently include PRIDE yoga, chair yoga, yoga for those in recovery, yoga for cancer survivors, kids yoga and more.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
We have three studio locations!

Sangha Studio – Pine | 120 Pine Street., Burlington VT
. This is at the cross section of Pine Street and Main Street, behind NorthStar Sports and Yogarama.

Sangha Studio – North | 237 North Winooski Ave., Burlington VT. This is at the intersection of North Union St., Decatur Ave., and North Winooski Ave.
WHAT ARE YOUR CLASS SIZES?
Class sizes vary based on the time of class, the weather outside, and much more! As a general rule, weekday evening classes tend to be the busiest of the classes we offer.

Each studio has a different capacity for class:

Sangha Studio – Pine | 120 Pine Street.: This studio location comfortably fits 32 students.
Sangha Studio – North | 237 North Winooski Ave.: This studio location comfortably fits 46 students.
WHERE CAN I PICK UP SOMETHING I ACCIDENTALLY LEFT AT THE STUDIO?
We have a lost and found located by the check-in desk at each studio. Stop by any time we are open (20min before/after any class on the schedule) to grab em’! We leave lost & found items at the studio location they were lost from for 1 month. We will do our best to reunite you with any lost items, but the studio is not responsible for monitoring the lost and found.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Comfortable clothing that you can move in! Some people wear pants, some wear shorts. Some wear shirts, some don’t. All we ask is that your private regions remain fully covered to the level of an average bathing suit.
DO YOU HAVE CHANGING ROOMS?
Yes! We have two changing rooms at Sangha Studio – Pine (120 Pine Street), one at Sangha Studio – North (237 North Winooski Ave.).
DO YOU HAVE GIFT CARDS? HOW DO I BUY ONE?
Yes! Two options — you can purchase a customizable gift card for any amount using the MindBody app and schedule for it to be sent electronically whenever you’d like. If you would rather have a physical gift card, stop by either studio or give us a call, and we can mail it to you or your giftee for a small fee.

Gift cards can be redeemed at all studio locations regardless of at which location they are purchased.
I WANT TO HELP. WHAT CAN I DONATE?
Sangha is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and donations made to the studio can be tax-deductible. (Please note that donations for classes or memberships are not tax-deductible because you're receiving a service in exchange.) You can make tax-deductible donations to support the studio's mission here or review this page for other ways to contribute & be involved!
